Soft Machines / du står utanför med en penna is a choreographic work consisting of cyclical dance phrases in which sensitive gestures and interactive expressions have been detached from their initial context. The work juxtaposes the mechanic with the sensuous in an exploration of the tenderness and violence in sharing a form.
Six dancers are stuck in an already given structure that duplicates and repeats itself. Nothing really develops, but the choreography is not sealed. Outside leaks in and the other way around. Details spill over as what is already determined gets exposed to meetings that are random and incalculable.
Stina Ehn and Oda Brekke’s choreographic collaboration departs from a set of methodical procedures where dancing and writing closes in on the relationship between body and place. They are interested in how social and architectural structures are embodied and shape meetings with other people.
The music in the piece is a new composition by Saga Fagerström that takes off from the same choreographic method as used on the dance material.
